Walking Breaks

Walking in the Alps:

Like many people we really enjoy walking and that was one of the reasons we decided to move here. Firstly the choice of walks is excellent with tempting options in all directions. What’s more it’s very varied, from a gentle stroll along the banks of the river to a very challenging ascent of the glaciers at Sixt Fer-a- Cheval. Spending the night at one of the refuges is also very popular; again different levels of stamina are needed to reach them. Several of the Grandes Randonnées walks criss cross the valley and these are supplemented with many more well signposted trails and tracks which wind through the small farming hamlets, up amongst the pastures and forest and over the mountain summits.

So whatever you enjoy there is plenty of choice; the scenery is stunning, the river runs along the valley floor, the lower slopes are dotted with small hamlets, meadows and deciduous woods and rise up to dramatic peaks above. The area is full of wildlife and wild flowers which erupt across the meadows and mountain sides.

Walking breaks: 2015
June and September

We know many of you enjoy the chance to walk in company so we have arranged some scheduled walking breaks in groups of no more than 6-8 where we will accompany you on a variety of different routes, from shorter and less strenuous walks to longer, more demanding treks and a range of terrain from woodland and meadow paths, quiet mountain roads and of course, the signposted trails. We can also arrange tours with a local mountain guides if you want to try the higher peaks or glaciers for instance, or you might want to try an overnight stay in one of the refuges.

Dotted around the mountains there are welcoming bars or restaurants, so we plan a lot of walks around a stop or two or arrange a picnic lunch as an alternative.  Afterwards come back to the chalet for a swim or a bike ride before supper, or just enjoy some quiet time.

if you prefer to strike off on your own we can advise on routes and deliver and collect you.
